Aside from a Torx 6 screwdriver, there is nothing more essential than a good service or "Take Apart" manual.

 

Unofficial guides

  • iFixIt has an excellent series of visual step-by-step Guides for modern Macs, iPhones, and iPods.

 

Official Apple Manuals

Apple publishes a series of Service Source manuals, intended for use by authorized service centers. Apple really frowns on unauthorized distribution, (having printed them on UnObtanium paper,) but the following Service Source manuals are known to exist. (Listed in alphabetical order and model release date, as listed in MacTracker.)
